Asumi completed her Bachelor of Optometry with Therapeutic Endorsement at the University of Auckland, graduating with honors in 2023. Throughout her studies, she gained valuable hands-on experience through externships at optometry practices in Whakatane, Blenheim, and Nelson. She also worked as an Optical Assistant at Highbury Optometrists in Birkenhead, Auckland, where she further developed her skills in patient care and optical services.
With a solid foundation in both clinical practice and customer service, Asumi is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive eye care experience and staying updated on the latest advancements in optometry. Her current studies in behavioral optometry has allowed her to fill the gap left by John Mellsop when he retired in 2025.
Fluent in both English and Japanese, Asumi excels at performing detailed eye examinations and ensuring clear communication for patients from diverse backgrounds.
Outside of optometry, Asumi is an avid reader with a passion for musicals and exploring new destinations. When not traveling or immersed in a book, she enjoys knitting and spending quality time with family and friends.
