Behavioural Optometry and Meares-Irlen Syndrome
Low Vision
Paediatric Optometry (Children’s Vision)
CAA, Maritime and Police Examinations
In 1980 I relocated to Wanganui from Papakura after graduating with an Optometry Degree from the University of Auckland. My wife and I have bought up our three children here, and find it a great place to live and work.
I find Optometry a great outlet to help people, which I am passionate about. Visual solutions can have a dramatic impact on a person’s way of life. I enjoy giving back to the community – both locally and abroad. I have carried out charity work for several nations, most recently in Vanuatu.
I have interest in a number of the sub-specialist areas of Optometry. One such area is complex contact lens fits for keratoconics, or for those with corneal disease.
I also enjoy caring for those who for reasons either genetic or age related, have reduced vision. This is called Low Vision Care. I practise low vision both at Wanganui Eyecare and locally for the Wanganui Low Vision Clinic. There is now a great variety of equipment available to help those with low vision achieve their goals.
I am passionate about Children’s Vision and Behavioural Optometry. Behavioural Optometry can be helpful for any age group, though particularly for children with learning difficulties. Highly performing athletes can benefit. I use special spectacle lenses, contact lenses, vision training exercises and lenses of various hue to improve visual comfort for those in need.
I am an active member and volunteer of my local Church. I enjoy hiking, both in New Zealand and abroad. You can’t beat an old favourite site, though I do love to travel to places I have not yet explored.
