I studied Optometry at The University of Auckland, graduating 1977. For two years I practised in Christchurch, before going overseas for three years to train and travel in Britain.
I initially came here to help out in a short-term capacity. My wife Raey and I fell in love with Wanganui and it became home for our family. I then launched Wanganui Eyecare with Michael Webber. John Mellsop and Kerry Bennett later joined us. The partnership expanded to include Hawera Eyecare in 2014.
My wife and I have raised our family here. All have now left home; one daughter a solicitor in Auckland, the other involved in international relations overseas. My son is a pilot for Air New Zealand.
I enjoy giving back to the wider community and have carried out Volunteer Optometry abroad, more recently in Fiji. I love new technology, and have gained supplementary qualifications in diagnostic pharmacology. I am a regular conference attendee.
My wife and I try to keep fit and walk often. I also play golf, ski and love being out on the water. I very much enjoy the outdoors but also an interesting read. My trademark dish is chicken masala.
